The Fall from Grace

There are few things I enjoy more than watching a celebrity fall apart. My favorite fall from grace, of course, is Brittany Spears. But a fall from grace needn't be as dramatic as Brittany's to satiate my need for a celebrity train-wreck. I even enjoy the more subtle declines, such as when a particular celebrity is on every channel, magazine cover and in every gossip column, then makes a shitty movie and, finally, suddenly disappears (ala Jennifer Lopez). But the dramatic steep decline into "hot mess" territory is clearly the most fun to watch, and Brittany has outdone herself with hers. I saw a portion of Matt Lauer's Brittany interview, but no matter how much I love the fall from grace, I can tolerate only so much of that girl. I did stick around long enough to hear her "We're country" excuse for driving around with her son on her lap. If I was from the "country", I'd be headed to the city to save myself from having anything in common with Brittany Spears and Kevin Federline.

What's your favorite celebrity fall from grace?

I must admit to being incredibly fascinated by Britney's downward spiral. I actually feel a little sorry for her now (although I haven't seen the Matt Lauer interview), and just want to go over to her place and sit her down and say, "Listen, honey. It sucks that you chose Kevin, and that you're pregnant with your 2nd kid in two years, and that every time you make a parenting mistake it's documented; but that's no reason to not let people choose your clothes & do your hair. You are a celebrity. Let people help you."

And then, I will steal some of her money & blame it on K-Fed.

J Lo's was great. I really really hate her. And it's so weird seeing every one of her boyfriends/husbands/ whatever taking out full-page ads saying how great she is all the time. Great as an actress, great as a wife, great as a person. Do me a favour! She's just ridiculous.

And on a related note: Ben Affleck's fall was funny. Has he fallen from grace? Well, he has in my house. At least the ad he did for Lynx deodorant has helped him regain a little respect.

And of course in the UK Pete Doherty has fallen from grace badly...

Didn't think Pete Doherty had any grace to fall from meself. He'll just be Pete Doherty and then die and that'll be it. Best fall from grace? Diego Maradona. Cheatin' junky who robbed England in '90 with his 'hand of God'. More like 'hand of cheatin' junky'. Turned into a fat slob at deaths door cheatin' junky. Sadly he forgot to go through the door....for now. Britney's just dumb n doesn't know what to do now her teeny bopper fans have grown up.....

For some reason, however many years ago it was, I was incredibly fired up about Tom Cruise ditching Nicole Kidman. I hate celeb talk, etc., and it isn't like I scour the entertainment pages or whatever. But for some reason, that one struck a nerve. And Tom Cruise continues to annoy the shit out of me with all this Scientology stuff and his pompous attitude. So I am thinking he is digging himself a nice deep hole and eventually will fall in, never to be seen again.
Either that, or the Mother Ship will come for him.

I totally agree, Amy, about the hair and makeup. I mean, come on! There's no excuse for that.

*, Ben Affleck is the worst. He doesn't do commercials over here though.

4D, I just read something about Pete Doherty. He doesn't get as much press here as he does over in your parts. He looks like a serious fuck up.

Candy, yes! Star Jones! That's awesome. I saw an old episode of the view the other day. Normally, I just change the channel because I can't stand that fucking show. But I kept it on for a few minutes, and you could see Star Jones rolling her eyes at Barabara and saying snide things! It was gorgeous!]

Z, I'm not a celeb gossip fan either. I avoid those magazines and tv shows. But when I hear about a fall from grace, I can't turn away, which is why I had to watch just a little bit of that britney interview.

I'm still waiting for Paris to fall... but people still seem strangely fascinated with her.

I'm with you on that one, Marc. It's inevitable, right? I would love to see her get fat.
